The party all climbed on Piero, who leapt down the shaft, screaming like a little girl. Right before they hit the ground, Abadon cast Feather Fall on Piero, which stopped the party from falling to their deaths. The party formed up and bravely charged towards Balak, the Outcast.

They encountered fungus with vine-like tentacles that took an unhealthy interest in Arianthana who was momentarily entangled, but the wizard and sorcerer beat them back. The Paladin reminded the group of the need to save the little girl and to stop the summoning of a demon. After a few minutes, the group encountered an encampment. They had the halfling, Bruno, stand on Piero’s shoulder to look over the wall. The halfling saw a horde of goblins with a few bugbear superiors. Thinking quickly, the group decided that the most effective plan would be to light the werewolf on fire and set him loose on the greenskins.

Backstory:

Our intrepid adventurers have ventured into the Sunless Citadell in pursuit of the village girl Mela. They quickly encounter a tribe of Kobolds, who effectively stall their pursuit. After some misunderstandings, our heroes manage to convince the tribe that they will lead the kobolds against the goblins. And here’s how:

Pierro, that dastardly hansom bundle of fury and machismo, decided to show off just exactly how manly he is to the kobolds.

ZabuzaWithSpears.jpg

By impressing the kobolds with his immunity to goblin weapons, and with some quick words from a disguised Bruno Trickfoot, Pierro convinces the kobolds that he and Korra are friendly and want to help. And with more adventurers popping out of the wood work by the second, the kobolds decide to let these crazy scaleless to lead the charge into the goblin stronghold. With this, the kobolds reveal their plan for the assault: Drop the walls and charge head-long.

brick-wall-crumble.jpg

The wall leaves a gap between the kobolds and goblins, which the party jumps and then engages the evil forces. Beset with goblins, wargs, and a bharghest, the party spreads out and employs teamwork. Abadon (who has been invisible for some time) decides to leave the party to these foes and scouts ahead.

You-Didnt-See-Anything-Madagascar.gif

Abadon uses acid to free the paladin, and after being released, Arianthana joins the fight with Abadon to stem the flow of goblin reinforcements, allowing the rest of the party to dispatch the initial wave. Between Korra’s stabbery and Bruno’s missles, the Bharghest is eventually felled. Pierro has some soul-searching time with a warg, and a crazy itching that distracts him for quite a bit of the fight, curtesy of a dragon. After getting better, he makes short work of the warg, who provides him with momentary relief from the crazy itching sensation. But its not over yet:

partysurrounded.jpg

After the initial waves of the goblin forces have been routed, the reinforcements threatened to overwhelm the party. With great luck, the kobolds return to help out, having found and rescued their baby red dragon mascot. The kobold warriors deal with the oncomming goblins, giving the party a moment to rest and re-orient themselves for the next encounter.

Backstory

After the party decided to challenge a dragon and slay it within the same day, they set about preparing for combat.

The Plan

Offer Agatha as a faux offering to the dragon. The party would web the dragon, Olimar to the ground, then drop a boulder on its head while attacking.

Speech

“You don’t eat if you don’t slay the dragon.”
-Agatha
“A week ago we, were no one; tomorrow, we are legends!”
-Bruno
“Next week we’ll slay a god, I like to estimate conservatively.”
-Korra
“We’re going to f*** it till it’s raw.”
-Pierro

Damsels and Dragons

Agatha, Korra and Pierro marched towards the dragon’s lair with Agatha feigning as a damsel in distress. Bruno was invisible on his dog.

You’re amusing, leave the offering and I shall spare you
-Olimar

Olimar was not fooled by the feint and blew his poisonous breath on the group. Besides Agatha, the party was unfazed by the breath attack as the dragon leapt straight into Abadon’s webbing.

knightschallenge.jpg

IS THAT ALL YOU HAVE? ON SECOND THOUGHT, I’LL JUST KILL YOU
-Korra

Asher cast enlarge on Pierro and Korra to make them of equal size with Olimar.

Piero began to wrestle and bite the dragon while pinning it to the ground. The dragon buffeted Piero with claw and bite attacks to little avail as Agatha was providing healing to Piero. Meridia hurled boulders and trees against the Dragon while Bruno accosted the rear of the dragon with a lance and his dog. With a crack of lightning, Abadon dealt the final blow. The dragon, uttered its last curse by poisoning Pierro and ordered a fire to be lit in the thicket.

Ballad of Olimar’s Charge

The Death Wind howls her disdain
The Heroes march unwavering
With dread does the death wind take flight
With sorcery, her strength deprived
One hero has howls of his own
Poison did the death wind blow
As mountain of rubble did astrew
Did lance and lightning strike the brute
Fires of war did rage
As steel began to flay
With final coil and cursed bain
So the death wind was slain

Background

After defeating the werewolves, the group sought to recover from the harrowing battle. The brewery of Trickfoot’s family collapsed partially. However, the thorpsfolk was persuaded to help in rebuilding it. On another note, a storm was on the horizon. Abadon used an augury to find out how bad the storm would be, which it turned out was only “sound and fury.”

And Now BEES!

After setting forth for the Sunless Citadel, the party stopped to camp for the night. Agatha was on watch in the early morning when she found herself assaulted by BEES!
thebees.gif

The bees themselves were the handiwork of three shapeshifters in an attempt to ambush the party. These shapeshifters were unusual in that though they appeared lycanthropic, they posessed parts from multiple DIFFERENT animals. Later the party determined that these were a true-breeding race known as Shifters. After a brief scuffle, the party captured one of the shifters and coerced her to reveal why the shifters attacked the group. The shifter’s name is Meridia.

The Great Wild Hunt

The captured shifter (Meridia) revealed to the group that she belonged to the fey court of a half-fey king named Oberon. She goes on to say that a Great Wild Hunt has been called on the party. Specifically, that every member of her tribe is obliged to chase for sport the party, and bring them as trophies back to the tribe and to the summer court of Oberron.

With this information at hand, the party decided that the best course of action is to confront Oberon at his own domain. No doubt dumbstruck at the brilliance of the plan, the captured shifter agreed to lead the party to the court’s location. (Actually Meridia was impressed by how you spared her and all of her friends when attacked you, as well by both the priest and noble woman apologizing for desecrating the Wild Grove of the Great Huntress).

The party made it back to the Shifter colony which consisted of stone monoliths and “lean-to”s. The tribe of shifters was surprised to see their quarry come all the way to the settlement and was ready to give battle. Oberron watched the entire encounter invisibly to see how these interlopers would respond. Though the shifters gave repeated insult the party neither fled nor fought, and thus Oberron decided that these interlopers were, PERHAPS, too worthy to be sacrifices for the Great Huntress. Oberron revealed himself after using Mass Tasha’s Hideous Laughter on his own tribe to stop them from killing the party. After doing so he introduced himself to the party and demanded that they give account of themselves and how they would make offerings to the Great Huntress.

After much debate it was decided that the party would slay a Green Dragon and bring it back to the Settlement as an offering to the Great Huntress in their sted.

Story so far…

After defeating the Doppelganger, the thorp of Dundenvale was out in force in the forest.

Demon Hunt

The party turned back towards the thorp and located the Imp ontop of the Brewery thanks to the TEMPORARY gem of True Seeing. Piero attempted to climb a ladder with knife hands but only managed a spinning dance in the middle of town.

Zangief-lariat_1_.gif

Bruno fired an arrow and presumably slayed the demon whose body was not recovered. This has led the party to believe the Imp to be a summoned creature, whom was sent back to it’s native plane after it’s demise on the material plane.

The Nerd Herd

The next day, wolves began to attack the peasantry when Korra raised the alarm and told the villagers to run into her manor house for safety. With the peasantry unable to get into safety in time, the party sallied forth.
Wolf_Punch__FULL_VIEW_PLESE_by_XxFenrierxX.gif

Pierro helped the Stable Girls and a new town arrival named Glorietta into the safety of the stone temple. Abadon used said stone temple as his base of operations to observe and blast wolves.

During the early parts of the encounter, Abadon cast several boosting spells while Korra and Piero charged into combat. Bruno shot at the wolves from the roof of the brewerie as three wolves were attacking Agatha.

Lukas, Halia, and Gregor all assisted peasants into getting into the Manor house.

A werewolf bit and grappled Piero whom decided the best option would be to bite it back since he couldn’t use his over-sized sword in the grapple (or his Greatsword either!)

werewolf.jpg

A dire wolf grappled Piero from behind while Korra lanced it from behind with a total of 3 wolves skewered inclusive. Piero then proceeded to bite the dire wolf back as it had pulled him off of the werewolf he himself was already biting. During this encounter Lukas provided flanking and trip attempts whilst Halia tried to break a wolf with her face. Gregor used his heavy crossbow to harry the enemy.

At this point the werewolf beat a retreat, managing to escape a web spell, Faerie Fire, and a few more lancing attempts.

The dire wolf and Piero continued to exchange bites. Piero had an erection, an erection that raged with the white hot intensity of 1000 exploding suns, for the entire duration of the altercation.

Abadon fired electricity into the fray while Asher electrocuted the wolf grappling him.

Story so far…

With Dundenvale having been saved by the “heroes” of Greyskull, the thorp settled back into the daily rituals of not dying from dysentery. Things had become quiet until Molly of the Kroper family ran into the tavern to beseech the town thu.. heroes to save her daughter. Upon further discussions, it became apparent that Milly had been kidnapped by a band of goblins.

The Plan

March into the forest to confront the goblins and save the girl. Don’t set entire forest on fire.

Glitter is never the answer, Marriage is

Upon encountering a goblin encampment, the group brutalized the goblins while Abaddon knocked out the majority of them with a glitter bomb, while also disabling his party members. Cocurrently, a nixie started to harass the party to which Bruno responded rationally with a marriage proposal. The nixie, princess of all fae of the forest, accepted. Upon opening the bag, it was the towns aging fighter who brought the group to the conclusion that the thorp had a doppelganger infestation.
mitch.jpg

We Need Your Pubes for Science

As the party returned to Dundenvale’s tavern, Piero questioned his uncle as to whether he was not a Doppelganger. (turns out he wasn’t) Molly demanded to know if the party had rescued her daughter to which Piero replied with a druken song about Laura the one eyed, one handed wench.
miguel-lute.gif

Molly became hysterical and rushed outside to find Bruno and his Fae fiance. Feeling very much not inclined to listen to her inane prattling, Bruno first tried to bring the woman to her senses unsuccessfully by slapping her. He then requested his fiance to use her gifts to calm her down. Using her magical fey charm, she distracted the woman from the situation regarding her daughter, but didn’t actually manage to make her any quieter. She continued to talk at great length about her new desire to live among the fey, which he found equally irritating. Bruno then told her to go to them, pointing in the general direction of the Fey village, finally solving his annoying townswoman problem, but inadvertently setting other events into motion.

Hearing Molly becoming ever more hysterical and running off to the woods to join the fae, the Kroper patriarch became contentious. Piero demanded hair from the balding patriarch, whom reached into his britches and pulled out some of his old grey pubic hairs. They Kroper clan left for the forest before it became known that the elder Kroper was the doppelganger. Meanwhile, Bruno, Abadon and the Tiefling went to the Kroper estate to find a few guards standing back to back.

They eventually found the real Elder Kroper, stuck in a barrel. Bruno went to appeal to the queen of the Fae, aka his angry future mother-in-law to lend him the Gem of True Sight. She acceded to his request.

Do You Believe That Love Can Bloom on the Battlefield?

Korra and Piero rode off into the woods to slay the pretender patriarch. After tracking down a lone man in the woods, the duo immediately sought to slay the shifter believing it to be the Doppelganger. The man transformed into a wolfen shape.Bruno rode in with the gem strapped to his face.

Quickly, he realized that the wolfen shape was actually a werewolf. The three rode off into the night, intent on slaying the doppelganger. Finding the doppelganger in the woods, a confluence of the party wrestled it to the ground. After yielding, the doppelganger explained that an imp had contacted it to distract the village. The party decided to slay the imposter and thus the town was saved?

What remains for the party is to rescue the girl from the goblins they didn’t kill, deal with an invisible/shapeshifting imp before the temporary gem of trueseeing becomes inert in 24 hours, and possibly handle a werewolf situation no one was aware of prior to the doppelganger incident.

Story so far…

An ogre has been terrorizing the Thorp of Dundenvale, making demands of alcohol, cattle, and slaves. Unreasonable as these demands seem to be, the thorp and the ogre live in an uneasy compromise. However, one day, as with any bully, the ogre demanded more than the people of Dundenvale could stand. Taking the much-beloved triplets, whom everyone was acquainted with (some more than others), the town’s protectors resisted the ogre. These protectors, worn and old adventurers themselves, proved no match to the hulking brute. It then falls on the inheritors of the thorp to slay the ogre, and bring back the triplets of the town.

The Plan

Bruno Trickfoot is to sneak into the cave to blind the ogre. Ghost Sounds cast by (Trent) will lure the Ogre out of the skull-shaped hill, and the remaining team will pour burning oil on the ogre. The team will then attack the ogre with missile weapons until the ogre is vanquished.

No Accounting for Vultures

Upon arriving at Skull Hill, the group was met by a goblin who appears to be serving as a lookout. After subduing and intimidating the goblin, the group quickly went to their positions. As the oil team climbed the hill, Piero was attacked by a vulture, which had a nest in one of the eyes of Skull Hill. The resulting chaos drew a hostile wolf from the cave. However, before the wolf became a problem, Korra skewered the intruding beast with a lance charge. Once the vulture has been dealt with, the warrior saw the ogre through the eye socket of the hill.

The Capricious Nature of Plans

Having decided that it was the best course of action, Piero leapt down from his thirty-feet vantage point, and landed dagger-first onto the ogre’s back. The Renarian warrior slashed at the ogre repeatedly before being caught between the creature’s meaty hands, and flung across the cave room. The ogre strode furiously towards the fallen warrior. Then, as if like in the stories, Korra, in her resplendent armor, Joined the fray. Having navigated the cave, with lance at the ready, she charged the ogre, and landed a solid hit. However, while injured, the ogre grabbed her and brutally threw her to the ground. Things looked grim for the two fighters. Fortunately, the rest of the group decided to stick to the plan. Lured by the ghost voices, the ogre ran for the entrance only to be set on fire by the Abadon. Two of the specialists dogs were injured from biting the flaming ogre as it ran towards the entrance. Finally, the adept poured the oil on the ogre, and the resulting conflagration slayed it.

Dungeons and Damsels

The adventurers then found a secret cave entrance and marched down the staircase stoically. After slaying several beatles with fire, and setting a mushroom forest on fire, the team found the tomb of a warlord. Opening the tomb, the ghoulified warlord attacked the party only to be ripped asunder by a critical glaive attack by Korra. Marching further down through the tunnels, the group found a wizard’s study containing several minor golems to attack them.

I’ll Beat a Motherfucker with Another Mother Fucker

beat.jpg
Having interrupted an infernal ritual, the party vicously attacked the wizard that was attempting to sacrifice one of the townsfolk. A snake and spider leapt at the warrior while Korra battled a fire elemental. The wizard used the party’s tactic against them by setting the group on fire. The alchemist responded to the wizard threat by setting the wizard on fire. The leaping spider was slain as it leapt towards Korra, and the warrior managed to get a firm grasp on the snake. The adept became beguiled by the wizard to create water and put out the fire creeping across his body.

The warrior walked up to the wizard, clearly having enough of this shit, and strangled him with the snake, throttling him senseless. The warrior then hurled the body down the demon frog altar, after which a voice heard only by Piero stated these ominous words: “The pact has been made, the power is yours”.

Thus, the enterprising group saved the town (?)

BirthRight Campaign Master Outline & Notes

Things that the players have forgotten about: Foroggoth the Hezrou Demon, the Imp, the Quasit, and the Goblins serving the Ogre. The Demon said “The Pact has been Made.” Olimar the Green Dragon has a parent, whom will come looking for the adventurers later, named ?Victoriginox? Namyria ( Bruno Trickfoot ‘s fey wife) has been left guarding the hoard, and still expects a proper fey wedding on their return. Elder Kuroper still has… THINGS to deal with the party regarding REASONS. The rescued Dwarf slave of the Evil Wizard. Queen Tatania doesn’t like the Fey wedding.

Things that need to come into play: The Senate, or at least Senators, of Pekal. Their Patrician Patron. The royals from far off lands coming for the Fey wedding. Queen Tatiana. The Druid’s Circle. The College of Magic (and it’s enforcers). Muppatta’s mentor.

A Dragon’s Hoard (Items from The Mother of All Treasure Tables, ended on page 116)

Treasure in the Dragon’s Hoard (some of it Dragon Made):

You see a throne-like oaken chair elaborately carved with forest creatures, people, and some sort of shapeshifter crossing betwixt the two (500 gp) supplemented with niches

holding small gold statues of fey ( 4 statues worth 125 gp each). 1000 gp so far.

You discover a large intaglio (recessed engraving worth 185 gp) carved from chalcedony and strung upon a finely made gold cina (400 gp). The intanglio i sexecuted on a piece of semi-transparent chalcedony & portrays a drayad among the boughs of her oka tree. Her hair swirls like the currents of the wind itself and is adorned with a chaoti posy of oak loeaves. The contour of the dryad’s simple own and the patterend lower border of the oak bough and leaves correspond to the oval shape of the intaglio which is large enough to cover the larger area of a woman’s palm. The stone seems stained with dark, currantcolored ink, and it is probable it was also used a s a seal.

On top of a pile of coins lies a leather bound bound book (340 gp). There is notitle on the cover and as you lift the book you catch a whiff of the smell of grass or something like it. You open the book to the first page and see an oak leaf clipped to the page with a small metal band. You turn and find a leaf from a black lotus tree. Intrigued, you begin to flip through the pages , and sure enough, every one has a single leaf from a different tree on it. There are over one hundred pages of tree leaves ctalogued in the book. You cannot imagine the time it must hae taken someone to collact all of the leaves here, especially considering that not all the are indigioenous to this area.

You set the book aside, realizing whoever owned this chest wads definitel a tree lover. You sift through the silver coins and near the bootom you feel something hard and rectangular. You retrieve it to find aan oaken about a fot wid by a hand span deep and tall (1 gp). You carefully remove the lid and your eyes fall upon six brooches, each one made of platinum and forged into the likeness of a lfea. The leaves represented are dogwood, chestnut oak, sycamore, witch hazel, honey ltus, and mountain ash. Each one is intricately designe and impressive to behold (520 gp). 2500 gp.

This place looks like it is used for storage, and it appears the owner has an intense interet in furs. Sveeral different animal furs are hung from pegs on the walls. All of the furs have been altered so they can be worn. the first you approach is the fur of a winter wolof fashion to be worn over the body like a poncho (235 gp). Next you come to the fur of a small balck bear fashioned so it can be worn as a cloak (95 gp). Another fur hanging on the will is a red fox, and it has been altered so that it can be worn as a cape, where the fox’s head sits atop your s and its body flows down the back of your neck (75 gp).

Use page 121 for wedding gifts. OR PAGE 132! Perhaps page 134? Balanced on its side you discover an enormous sundial (200 pounds, 22380 gp)> It is wrotought of bright, gleaming gold the color of godenrod pollen, and shaped in a stylized rnediotn of a sunflower: the flat surface is carved in many rises and hills, graduating out o a fromae of small, oval petals, then tappering into a thick ‘stem’, where a subtle hollow suggest the device was meant to rest upon a slim but sturdy pillar. Set along the otuer edge of the sundial are gems to make the passing of hours: four opals an six sapphires alternaing. two gmes seem to have been pried out by theieve’s hands only hollows remain where the gems once rested.

The floor is practically covered with coins of all sizes from many different nations, including ones you don’t recognize. Copper, silver, gold, and even a few platinum litter the entire surface of the floor. There are thousands of them, most them being copper pieces, and it will take hours and probably more than one trip to retrieve them all adn get them out of this room to a safe place (16 ft x 16 ft by 1 inch deep). Use whatever amount of money you want.

Use Page 128 for the throne of the wood elf king

With trepidation you remove the clothg and discover a remarkably well preserved stuffed winter wolf (300 gp) replete with luxuriant fur, two life-like glass eyes, where dagger=like fangs and black snarling lips. Beside this display of masterful taxidermy is another, slightly taller draped figure, pulling back the hempen cloth from this objcut reveals a preserved, stuffed male unirocn with intact horn (5000 gp). The unicorn’s right front hoff is rasied as if in defense and its proud nostrils are flared. The taxidermist has relplicated the creatures’ expresioon with alarming realism, even to the whites of the beast’s rolled0back eyesl.

A dozen toothpicks carved of ivory (1 gp each).

You see a large shape, easily the height of a large man and twice the width, drapped in rtted, moldy linen. Pulling away the cloth causes it to disintegare in a faine, aggravating dust which coats the items it was hiding in a gray dingy film. You discoter the odd shwap was due to the number of large items hidden under the rotted cltoh. The tallest of them seem sto be a block of wood as tall as a man, but it has been carved almost as if it were stone, showing a mountain woodland scene of incredible detial (300 gp petrified wood statue). It ssems as if the artisan’s tools captured each needle of every fir tree, and a forest is shown marching up the mighty flanks of the snow-capped mountain. Half-hidden among the first line of tress is a large house with myria eaves and chimenys.

Use page 131 for the treasure of the Dragon Slayer.

A water clock (1500 gp). The water clock sits on a marble pedestal and a piece of chrysoberyl is set into the center of it’s face. It is currently empty but appears to be in perfect worign order. Each number on it’s face is made of a tiny mosica of multicolored cihips of marble, and ll of its tinyu gears are of brightloy polished brass.

DM_Lovins:
Also, everyone get the pictures I mailed out? I was going to discuss them to do a quick recap so that you all remember what your great and glorious quest was.
DM_Lovins:
Well seeing you guys is good too… but you were kinda angry earlier at the thought we wouldn’t get anything done. You okay Calvin?
Calvin:
I like to play dnd
Calvin:
I don’t like to plan dnd
Calvin:
If you see what I mean
DM_Lovins:
Ah, I think I understand.
Calvin:
anyway I’m getting nice paychecks and paying for no rent or utilities
Calvin:
so I’m pretty damn happy right now
DM_Lovins:
Well that’s good. How are you Kevin?
Kevdar:
Still unemployed
Kevdar:
OTOH
Kevdar:
I still have a fantastic GF, so life is pretty good
DM_Lovins:
Good to hear.
Kevdar:
I’ll probably be going to the UC Davis law school this fall, which will involve like an hour commute each way
Kevdar:
But I’m thinking I’ll get a train pass
DM_Lovins:
Sounds like a plan.
Kevdar:
and have lots of reading time instead of crappy driving time
Kevdar:
… scholastic reading, I imagine I’ll have a shitload of it, just to be clear

oh so you got in?

Awesome, I didn’t hear
Calvin:
You didn’t post it all over facebook
Kevdar:
and offered a scholarship
DM_Lovins:
That’s what I do too, except I take the bus, and Houston’s transit system hasn’t been so great for awhile, you know?
DM_Lovins:
Cool man. Free ride?
Kevdar:
No, nothing quite that nice
Kevdar:
It was a significant scholarship, but nothing huge
Calvin:
The army offers college for free!
Calvin:
You just need to attend a 4-year seminar
Calvin:
But that’s free too!
Kevdar:
I actually still need to look into possibly doing some kind of navy/army thing for that
Calvin:
Not a bad idea really
Calvin:
Robert’s a LOT happier doing that
Calvin:
And he’s on WoW more than you are, lol
Kevdar:
They might pay for law school in return for a few years of doing law for them
DM_Lovins:
You? In the military?
Calvin:
tbh I think it’s a good idea to insulate yourself in the army for awhile since it’s going to take so long for the economy to recover
Calvin:
Basically your “time” is worth less in the next two years than they will be in like six years
DM_Lovins:
Are you kidding me Kevin? With your problems with authority and general scrawniness?
DM_Lovins:
You’ld get eaten alive.
Calvin:
Or it’d just fix those problems
Kevdar:
… I’d not technically be in the military
Calvin:
And he’d be buff
DM_Lovins:
Though Calvin does have a point.
Kevdar:
I’d be like a military auxilliary
Kevdar:
My cousin is that as a dentist
DM_Lovins:
That’s why I’m going for the government. And who told you that? A recruiter?
Kevdar:
Not technically in the CoC
Kevdar:
No, my cousin is doing that currently
DM_Lovins:
You’ll go where you’re told, and most likely it’s going to be some god forsaken desert.
Kevdar:
That really depends on what I’m doing
Kevdar:
They have a dental program where you’re not a soldier, you’re a fucking dentist
Kevdar:
because the navy needs dentists
Kevdar:
I imagine they need at least a few lawyers, too
Calvin:
Well they ARE the gov’t though
Calvin:
“we do’nt gotta follow yer ruels”
DM_Lovins:
True, but different parts have different amounts of getting shot at.
Kevdar:
That’s exactly the kind of case I’d have to make in court, yes
DM_Lovins:
Just so long as you know what you’re getting into. After all they need dentists and lawyers even more in Afghanistan and Iraq than here.
Kevdar:
I’m the type to read fine print
DM_Lovins:
That’s a good start, but remember that you can’t sue the government without the government’s permission.
Calvin:
You might still have to do basic training and grunt work before you get the degree though
Calvin:
I know Robert doesn’t have a fighting job but he had to do the training
Kevdar:
That’s fine
Kevdar:
Also, I have issues with STUPID authority
DM_Lovins:
And so you’re joining the MILITARY?!
Calvin:
I think he’ll be fine
Calvin:
honestly
Kevdar:
I’m just saying I’m gonna look into it
Kevdar:
Student loans are a bitch for law school
DM_Lovins:
That’s like me saying I don’t like Libertarians, so I’m going to hang out at a Tea Party Convention to find new friends.
DM_Lovins:
True that.
Kevdar:
Why would you not like libertarians
Kevdar:
and tea party conventions are a great place to avoid libertarians
Kevdar:
Tea Partyers are a bunch of crazy rednecks
Kevdar:
Reactionaries is what they are
Kevdar:
KEEP THE GOV’T OUT OF OUR LIVES
Kevdar:
AND IN THE BEDROOMS OF THE GAYS
Kevdar:
BURN THE GAYS, NOT THE FLAG
Kevdar:
NO MEDICARE, MORE TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH
Kevdar:
JUST IN CASE I GET RICH SOMEDAY
DM_Lovins:
Indeed, indeed.
Calvin:
indeed
Calvin:
politics
Calvin:
STRONG OPINIONS
Calvin:
>.>
Calvin:
.

DM_Lovins:
By the way guys, I’m going to start typing up and sending out the e-mails explaining the backstory so we can skip that part next time and go straight to the adventures and encounters.
Calvin:
I’m going to force him to play the game
Kevdar:
lol
Kevdar:
Isn’t that game like
Calvin:
It’s so fun!
Calvin:
except for the dying part
Kevdar:
Nintendo hard ++
Kevdar:
?
Calvin:
Yeah, lol
DM_Lovins:
Hahahahaha! Really now? It sounds like you and Adam have become fast friends.
Calvin:
Japanese take on traditional DND setting
Calvin:
Which means
Calvin:
LOL INVISIBLE DEATH TRAP
Calvin:
BTW MINDFLAYERS EAT YOUR BRAIN
Kevdar:
Makes victory all the sweeter
Calvin:
also that dragon? you’re not supposed to fight it
Calvin:
we just made you think you were
DM_Lovins:
I lived through Nintendo Hard… a game can be too hard to be fun. I know Calvin will disagree with me on this but then again I am very NOT ASIAN.
Calvin:
Demon’s Souls got game of the year
DM_Lovins:
Hahahaha! True that. There is a certain joy in “winning” Call of Cuthulu
Calvin:
It’s a really good game
Kevdar:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6L9bUouDr8
Calvin:
oh dude
Calvin:
The megaman zero series
Calvin:
is so f’n hard
Calvin:
It’s like megaman original hard
Calvin:
Except you can do a lot of different stuff
Calvin:
and you have good controls
Calvin:
and it’s STILL hard
Calvin:
btw we’ve still only got 3 players in Adam’s game
Calvin:
You and Adam need to go back to UH so I can have a dnd party
Austin has connected.
DM_Lovins:
http://www.lordkat.com/until-we-win-dragons-lair.html
Austin:
hey
Kevdar:
Adam’s probably going to be going to UT Dallas
DM_Lovins:
Beats videogames for a living on Nintendo Hard.
DM_Lovins:
Good to see you Austin. Everything okay?
Austin:
yea
Austin:
sidetracked
DM_Lovins:
It happens.
DM_Lovins:
So gentlemen, shall we start, or more dicking around?
Austin:
dick dick dick*
DM_Lovins:
Fantastic. Let’s run through the background real quick, so that everyone is up to speed. Everyone got the e-mail I sent with the pictures, right?
DM_Lovins:
The first one is the Adventurer Handbill in the town of Haanex that you all saw. You worked for the wizard Veoden.
DM_Lovins:
Coin12-2 shows the Wizard Veoden and his… “impressive” tower… he hired you to get a map to a fallen star (made of adamnatium as all stars are) from the grave of a cursed line of local nobility.
Kevdar:
one sec
Austin:
right right
DM_Lovins:
You went to the Great Graveyard far from town, and found the gravestone of Artuur Dairoo, last of his line, his family cursed with a strange, withering sickness that made their skin peel, and their hair and teeth all fall out before their 30th year.
Austin:
btw im level for the purposes of this current session
Austin:
level 3
DM_Lovins:
Don’t worry about it. This is just to get this thing started.
DM_Lovins:
As soon as we get to a real encounter, we can stop, not exactly a dream sequence (as it will be canon) but we’re doing hard and fast rules.
Austin:
k
Austin:
like, if you dont act in your turn time you have a brain fart and do nothing?

DME2Hi_01:
The third image shows the exhumed body of Artuur Dairoo, whom, like the rest of his accursed line, had turned to vile ghouls. In your nobility (or graving robbing binge, whichever), you slew all of them and took the map and other items of value.
DM_Lovins:
OOC: Yes Austin, that is exactly what happens. Or worse, I decide what I feel is the most amusing and then have the character do it.
DM_Lovins:
OOC: However, I guess I can give each player 2 minutes instead of 5 minutes.
Austin:
I thought 2 minutes was the plan in the first place
DM_Lovins:
OOC: Also, everyone has the pictures right? And the other books I sent to everyone so they can look at any maps or whatever while I’m talking about.
Austin:
right
DM_Lovins:
OOC: I meant the other way around, that I could give a couple more minutes to each person. Really though, it shouldn’t even take five minutes to figure out and say what you’re going to do in your turn.
Austin:
well, i think group discussion should not count on the players time, but other than that, 2 minutes or you brain fart

DME2Hi_01:
Coin 1-4 shows the crater where the fallen star impacted. Most of it burned away into vapor. Dug into the side of the crater was a goblin warren, and above the crater farther away was a small hut with a raging smoking fire and strong magical emanations… particularly of necromancy and transmutation.
DM_Lovins:
OOC: I will give the party some time to plan at the start of every battle. Moreover, I guess I can give an extra 5 minutes immediately after my turn for the party to discuss strategy. Really though, we need to speed this up. Calvin, are you still on board with all of this?
Calvin:
group discussion takes fucking forever
Kevdar:
^
Austin:
yea, once a round
Austin:
that was my whole point about rules though
Austin:
most time gets lost in a ‘what should we do as a team?’ discussion
Austin:
5 minutes…way too much lol
Austin:
ill kill myself
Kevdar:
One minute of “discussion time”
Kevdar:
2 minutes per turn
Kevdar:
done and done

DME2Hi_01:
The boulder in the center was only a yard and a half in diameter, but far heavier for anyone to carry alone, even Grob’Nob, it was solid Star Metal Ore.

DME2Hi_01:
Worth it’s weight in silver, worth more when refined. This was what you were sent to find. You, amazingly and perfectly, ambushed the goblins. Crushing them in their own warren. They worked for the evil Soceress Daresh, whom is the witch on the main cover of the adventure.
DM_Lovins:
OOC: I agree, too much time was spent in that. As I said, a maximum of 5 minutes a person, one 5 minute team discussion immediately after my turn each round. If that’s too long… we’ll make it 3 minutes.
Austin:
did she introduce herself as such? i dont recall getting her name during the playthrough
Kevdar:
IMO: Ghost sound “Help us we’re starving halflings, we’ll give you all our silver if you give us shelter!” – instead there’s a giant grob’nob waiting
Kevdar:
dead goblins
Austin:
lol
Austin:
i dont have cleave kevin
Austin:
goblins are my worst enemy
Austin:
lol
Kevdar:
>.> Get great cleave asap
Austin:
thats +6 bonus req
Kevdar:
suck jason’s dick I’m sure he’d give it to you
Kevdar:

Austin:
why do you think im level 4?
Austin:
lol

DME2Hi_01:
Coin1-3 shows a close up of the hut in which you met the wizard Arowain (whom is the small, balding man on the cover). He tells you that all of you, all of Skarrna infact, is in great danger… perhaps all of the North…

DME2Hi_01:
For Daresh has discovered how to create an item… a “Coin of Power”… a Medallion that gives the ability to kill with a touch… and some say… to even drink up the life force of others, to add it to one’s own power.

DME2Hi_01:
Daresh, seeing the heavy chain and weak enchantments that bound the wizard sundered, storms into the hut and pulls the coin to her with a Mage Hand spell… it immediately fuses with her and burns off all the flesh of her right hand… in a roar of pain she fires black lightning at the entrepid Kevdar, whom had been just talking with Arowain. Arowain takes the blow, his arm exploding into maggots and his flesh growing pale and gaunt…

DME2Hi_01:
Daresh flies away, cursing profusely as Arowain lies dying. His last words are to tell Halaan that the coin has been unleashed, that it’s evil must be destroyed or Daresh will live forever as a lich queen.

DME2Hi_01:
You bury the old man and burn down his shack prison after scrounging what few notes and supplies you can make off with. The goblins, amazed by your attack, and stunned by the flaming trees felled by your mighty barbarian,

DME2Hi_01:
cower in their hovel, far more afraid of you than they are of their erstwhile Mistress.

DME2Hi_01:
You then beign the slow, arduous process of dragging the meteor back to Veoden in the town of Haanex, just south of the Battle Lord Hyrkal’s Domain in Skarna.
DM_Lovins:
OOC: Anyone speak giant?
Calvin:
I did now
Austin:
Only orc and kalamaran lol
Calvin:
although in your damn campaign
Calvin:
i need 5 languages to speak common
Kevdar:
Could be worse
Kevdar:
Could be europe
Austin:
tragedy
DM_Lovins:
OOC: Indeed, it could. At least there is a common, Merchant’s Tongue.
Kevdar:
I BUY THAT SWORD
Calvin:
english is common in europe
DM_Lovins:
Hahahahaha!
Kevdar:
NOW it is somewhat common, yeah
Kevdar:
So, nobody speaks giant
DM_Lovins:
Yeah, it’s common in that they’ll all mock you for it, and give you the very worst deals. Also most of them will pretend to not speak it.
Austin:
i thought orc was similar but shrug
DM_Lovins:
Anyways, anyone speak dwarf?
Austin:
neither are written
DM_Lovins:
Yes Austin, it is.

DME2Hi_01:
Two ogres attacked you named Blash and Grumm. One had a bejeweled comb stuck in it’s hair and the other wore an engraved silver belt as an arm band, the runes all in Dwarven.
Austin:
this is on the way back?

DME2Hi_01:
The owner of these items, a dwarf named Stiruck, was in a bag, waiting to be devoured back at the Ogre’s camp.

DME2Hi_01:
Yes, it is on the way back to Haanex.

DME2Hi_01:
One of you recognizes him as a minor Dwarven Noble, driven out of Iron Top: Ancestral Homeland of the Dwarves, during their disastrous war with Emperor Kabori of Kalamar. He gives you a token, a copy of a sigil that you may take to another in Xaarum.
Kevdar:
I’d wager that our halfling knight would have the greatest in-character knowledge of nobility

DME2Hi_01:
The tokens he has given you grant each of you a small gift of the Dwarven minor Nobility. You should seek Purguld the Blacksmith in the Dwarf district of Xaarum.
Austin:
Lol. He might recognize Grob’Nob
Calvin:
I have knowledge local
Austin:
I have knowledge hit things

DME2Hi_01:
You escort him back to Haanex, where he seeks safe passage.

DME2Hi_01:
Hahahaha! Not so much Austin. The Dwarves were the invaded, not the invadees… but yes, he feared you, but trusted Calvin and the young Halfling Knight far more.
Kevdar:
No mention of how much he trusted the black guy. I SEE HOW IT IS.

DME2Hi_01:
He, of course, did not do much fighting as he is not a fighting man. His expertise is of a slightly more subtle bent.

DME2Hi_01:
Well you’re a human, you all look alike to dwarves. Just as Jeffrey keeps telling me that all white people look the same to him.

DME2Hi_01:
What’s your take on it Calvin?
Kevdar:
That’s not because jeffrey’s asian
Kevdar:
it’s because he’s half-insane with ADD
Calvin:
I can differentiate btwn ppl
Austin:
Faaccialll structures

DME2Hi_01:
You returned to the town of Haanex, and saw Stiruck safely off.
Austin:
the reason they all look the same is the reason why nobody knows how to make a pretty character in oblivion
Austin:
lol

DME2Hi_01:
You then went to speak with Veoden about your reward (which you have already recieved, I’m putting it into all of your starting golds).
Calvin:
btw austin
Calvin:
you’d probably love demon’s souls
Kevdar:
I had assumed all our adventurin’ you’re regaling us with was the precursor to our current levels/items, yes

DME2Hi_01:
The pictures stop at that point, meaning that the rest of the pictures I give to you without any other context whatsoever (and in no particular order) so that you might make wild and basely accusations and speculations about what is about to come.

DME2Hi_01:
Note that the pictures are all for the remaining part of this adventure, which you all are merely a fifth of the way through. Except for the ones that are for other adventures that I threw in there just for fun.
Austin:
Lol. Well, there will be an evil castle
Austin:
there always is
Austin:
also, what was the reward? Cause i was putting down a to-do list on grobnobs pdf
DM_Lovins:
OOC: Now I’m sure there are questions, concerns, complaints, random flirtations, and dick jokes, so let’s get to it shall we? Since we are retconning what happened with the previous campaign and the current adventurers, I’ll allow you guys to “rewind” and talk to fairly anyone about anything to get any clarification you need You can also try to, say, convince Stiruck to give you more of a reward, or whatever.
Kevdar:
Not necessarily, but i’m sure there’ll be an evil something-or-other we have to storm/infiltrate/explode
DM_Lovins:
Damn straight there always is.
Kevdar:
Personally, I’m planning on infiltrating the evil wizardess’ pants.
DM_Lovins:
In this adventure alone you’ll travel from the near frigid north (think England) to the Reelio Jungle far to the south.
Austin:
im sure shell sexual motivate you with her undead maggot arm, kevin
Kevdar:
I cast the cantrip OPEN on the buttons on her top.
Kevdar:
BAM
Austin:
i wasnt aware your character was a bit of a creeper but funny nonetheless
Kevdar:
No, he’s not.
Kevdar:
But I enjoy speculating about such things.
Austin:
also, what did we get from Veoden? Or is that just explanatory part of starting gold and item seletcion?
DM_Lovins:
In the next adventure you’ll cross the Ripple Hills (Arryad) into the Desert of the Silver Sands (pretty obvious Dune ripoff of spice, and yes, it gives you special mental powers if you consume it). You’ll also go all the way to the frozen north, and either quickly cross the ocean (including the Sea of the Dead) or take an amazingly long walk through Giant, Orc, Dinosaur, and Undead infested terrains (varying).
Kevdar:
I vote we take the boat
Kevdar:
(Because I’m fat)
DM_Lovins:
As you said Austin, explanatory of starting gold and item selection. RAW he was supposed to give you all a few bars of silver for your troubles (remember, that tin is the lowest monetary unit in Kalamar, not copper).
Calvin:
I want to go by land
Calvin:
b/c we haven’t gone that way before
DM_Lovins:
Awww… you want to miss out on Nathan Pocaat Captainson and all of his adventures?
Calvin:
Yes
DM_Lovins:
And butt raping?
Austin:
yea, it interest Grob’nob. More chances to run into deadly things and be ready for it
Kevdar:
It’s not rape if you yell “Surprise!”
DM_Lovins:
Also, by the end of this campaign, you can all be nobility, in various lands.
DM_Lovins:
Or outlaws. The last group that completed the campaign was hated in every town and village along Renaaria and Skarna.
DM_Lovins:
It was hiliariuos.
Calvin:
but y’know
Calvin:
we’ll be more famous if we go by land
Kevdar:
Hrm.
Calvin:
you need your deeds to be done within a decent proximity
Kevdar:
That does sound like more opportunities to right wrongs
Calvin:
for them to spread properly
Kevdar:
Asehr’s in, even though Kevin prefers peaceful boat rides
Calvin:
We’re decided, and in under 5 minutes
Calvin:
screw the rest of the party, lol
Kevdar:
They’re bots
Austin:
well, as a man who grew up on an island continent, you know to stay away from the water
Austin:
lol
DM_Lovins:
True. Sea is faster though, and unlike most computer games where the Big Bad Evil Boss sits in the Big Bad Evil Boss Tower evidently playing Conasta with his minions because he’s not doing anything while you fuckers are dicking around all of the rest of the world, my villains actually have plans and get shit done.
DM_Lovins:
So… the longer you take, the less shit there will be to save.
Austin:
lol
Austin:
where exactly are we headed?
Calvin:
shut the fuck up jason
DM_Lovins:
Thus, the less your reward from the traditional quest givers.
Calvin:
don’t pigeonhole use
Calvin:
us^
Calvin:
we’ve decided
Calvin:
now do our bidding
Austin:
lol
Kevdar:
Hell yes we’re going across land
DM_Lovins:
Hahahahaha!
DM_Lovins:
Okay then. Land it is.
Austin:
i wonder if vampires recognize fame….
Kevdar:
Oh totally
Kevdar:
if you’re famous enough they know you’ll be a great thrall
DM_Lovins:
Also, Calvin, I know you were joking, but please try to keep the incivility to ingame. It is easy to confuse the tone of text, okay?
Austin:
too angry to thrall
Calvin:
k
DM_Lovins:
So as I said, you’re in Haanex, and you’ve all just turned in your item for your reward, so you’re all standing there in Veoden’s house. Does anyone want to “stream of consciousness” back track and do anything else real quick?
Austin:
im pretty good with the background
Kevdar:
I’d like to be stricken with grief at my ineffectualness in trying to save the wizard who we watched die
Austin:
where are we trekking to and what must we go through to get there?
DM_Lovins:
Go ahead, do a good job and I’ll give you roleplaying xp.
Kevdar:
and slowly resolve on our journey over to become stronger so that I don’t need to have someone else take a hit for me
Austin:
Grob’nob is stricken with ignorance
DM_Lovins:
Well, you haven’t talked to Veoden yet about Arowain.
Calvin:
hmm
DM_Lovins:
So technically you don’t know yet. Right now you guys are near Saaniema where the island fortress of the Chuul Wizard stands on the Island of Ucea.
Austin:
Ok, so do we know who halaan is or should we ask veoden?
Kevdar:
“We… watched him die. That wizardess was aiming at me, and he got in the way. He saved my life, and he barely knew me. How can I do anything to help the savage people of this land when I’m too weak to defend myself!?”
DM_Lovins:
Looking at page 126 of the campagin setting, you guys will have to trek to Zoa at the far south. It is the last trade port before the Reelio jungle. To get there by land you’ll first have to pass Gilia, City of Bats, ruled by Vampires with an army of dead as enforcers. They tend to… “conscript” travelers…
Kevdar:
Good, we can fight the powers of the lich wizardess with our newfound vampire strength
Calvin:
cool
Calvin:
we get teh vampire template
Austin:
more like the zombie template
DM_Lovins:
Then you’ld need to pass Geanavue, the City of Tinkerers, world’s largest exporter of clocks, and full of gnomes.
Kevdar:
… we can become clockwork vampires?
DM_Lovins:
Then come the Keenoa Tors, an impressive mountain range home to several different warring tribes of giants. You might notice that there aren’t any large settlements between Geanavue and Xaarum, this is not on accident.
Kevdar:
So you’re saying that land travel is incredibly perilous and anyone who we happent to mention “Oh, we’ll pack supplies for a long land trek south” will say “ARE YOU INSANE”?
Calvin:
oh/ man
Calvin:
we are going to be
Calvin:
so freaking epic
Calvin:
SO EPIC
Calvin:
seriously though let’s not go through the main city
Austin:
the dead city?
Kevdar:
Yeah the region to the south sounds to have a lot of problems we can come back and fix later
Austin:
youre going to have to convince grobnob that undead are boring opponents
Kevdar:
when we have lasers shooting out our assholes
Calvin:
the exp we’re going to get
Austin:
where is the map for this? In the kalamar book?
Calvin:
is going to trivialize part 2 of hte campaign, heh
Kevdar:
is 0 if we die immediately
Calvin:
Anyway we might wanna do some sidequests on the way
Kevdar:
I’m sure the boat ride will have side quests
Kevdar:
Let’s take the boat
Calvin:
no
Calvin:
No boat
Calvin:
There are options
Austin:
im indifferent
Kevdar:
Can we take a skiff?
Kevdar:
A barge?
Kevdar:
clipper?
Kevdar:
Yacht.
Austin:
a piece of shit that floats is more appropriate
Kevdar:
Pre-driftwood.
Austin:
the discount ship
Austin:
lol
Kevdar:
I’m thinking that Asehr would initially go for heading south and helping out any in need along the way
Kevdar:
(heading south on land)
Kevdar:
but after hearing that there is a town full of vampires
DM_Lovins:
At Xaarum, you can finally trade in your favor from Stiruck. Xaarum is a city of miner and craftsmen that is under the rule of Zoa. Along the way, you’ll fight some bandits to get to Zoa, the world’s largest trading port where the Collossus of Zoa stands… the world’s largest construct. From there you will journey into the Obakasek Jungle, where Austin is originally from.
DM_Lovins:
Thence, you will go further, into the Reelio Jungle, on the outskirts of Dinosaur Jungle, which is very literally named.
DM_Lovins:
There you’ll also encounter tribes of cannibal headhunters.
Calvin:
I want to see what’s in the south
Calvin:
I don’t think anyone else has gone
Kevdar:
We can come back later
DM_Lovins:
Nope, no one has.
Kevdar:
This is important
DM_Lovins:
Also, remember that after this campaign is done there are even more adventures that await. I’ve been waiting for a group for an epic level campaign I’ve had for a couple of years now. I’m hoping that you all will be them. This adventure will allow you to completely reshape the Kingdoms of Kalamar.
Calvin:
Let me put it this way
DM_Lovins:
Remember, the known world is not the whole world, they even know it to be so. The Fhokki tell tales of a Frost Giant Kingdom where people are kept as Cattle.
Calvin:
DnD is about having fun and having interesting things happen
Calvin:
Going south is going to be more fun than the boat
Calvin:
And it’s going to be new for everyone
Calvin:
Instead of the same as before
Calvin:
Jason’s done the boat route a few times before
Calvin:
Let’s see if the south route is even possible
Kevdar:
I think he’s trying to tell us that at our CLs
Kevdar:
it’s not
DM_Lovins:
The Orcs of the Jungle tell tales of many strange and interesting creatures, lands, and peoples…
Kevdar:
I haven’t done the boat route before and it makes sense for our charactesr
Kevdar:
characters
Austin:
well, towns exist
DM_Lovins:
Indeed, with you guy’s level…. you wouldn’t survive right now… not unless you guys were amazing. Not saying that you couldn’t possibly do it. Just likely you’ll all die.
Austin:
its not like it a barren wasteland of hate
DM_Lovins:
Indeed.
DM_Lovins:
Sailing is big here so you don’t have to go by the horrible towns or the orc filled jungles though.
Kevdar:
I’d love to go through those later
Austin:
we can always decend to the coastline and fire signal to a boat if it gets absurd
DM_Lovins:
It’s the long stretches where you see no towns that should worry you. It is, after all, your choice.
Kevdar:
again, when I have lasers shooting out my ass
Kevdar:
so that things can’t buttrape me
Calvin:
See I don’t like “fake choices”
Kevdar:
i don’t think it should even really be considered a choice from the characters
Kevdar:
They’d evalaute their options:
Austin:
Hes telling us its dangerous Calvin, not that he wont go along with us
DM_Lovins:
Besides, you are all making more than one trip, so trust me, you’ll be able to go by land and / or by boat.
Kevdar:
“Hrm, this way we take a boat to a settlement and get to our destination faster”
DM_Lovins:
You think you’re going to cross this thing only once? Silly Calvin.
Kevdar:
“This way we have to pass by… a vampire city. Hrm. How much is that boat again?”
Austin:
I think your underestimating why they call it the sea of the dead
Austin:
lol
Kevdar:
Even if there are vampires in the sea
Austin:
last time we got attacked by a CR 14 underwater serpentine behemoth of doom that almost ate the ship
DM_Lovins:
Anyways, by boat you’ll have to pass by Aaser city of Pirates, guess what’s likely to happen there?
Kevdar:
It’s better than a whole city of them getting along and looking for recruits
DM_Lovins:
Also, Renaaria bay is not entirely unknown for having seamonsters. Then, of course, is the Sea of the Dead, where the zombie sharks roam.
DM_Lovins:
By the way, Zombie sharks are size category Large, Huge, or Garguntuan.
Kevdar:
I’m sure we’ll have plenty of chances to get ourselves killed in stupid ways
DM_Lovins:
that’s not even taking into account the haunted ghost ships that still sail those waters.
Kevdar:
Without starting off by picking the hellish nightmare route
Austin:
id rather be on dry land with my concept but again, im indifferent. I find the route to be roughly equal in absurd danger lol
DM_Lovins:
Please Calvin, you OFFEND me. The party will decide which way it goes. Both ways are dangerous, but I would be in remiss if I didnt’ tell you all (or more accurately have the cleric with a good wisdom score point out to you) that the land route has a much lower known rate of success. While the sea is dangerous, it is certainly more known and more successfully traversed.
Austin:
what im trying to get across to you kevin, is that this isnt a pleasant boat ride
DM_Lovins:
However, I have the encounters for both the land and the sea, as well as helpful NPCs to help you across both.
Austin:
they are both horrible. Its really only a matter of whether you want to fight for you life on a boat or on land
DM_Lovins:
There will be storms on the sea as you traverse it, and pirates, and sea monsters, and more horrible things. Just as by land their will be monstrous raiders, and undead, and other more horrible things.
Austin:
yup. Just thought it would be easier to intro new characters when someone dies lol
DM_Lovins:
That said, I am not, and will not, do anything so crass as to FORCE you to choose one route or the other.
Austin:
not to mention, stephen character might have a seriously rough time on boat
Calvin:
What’s the worst that could happen?
Calvin:
We have to reroll our characters?
DM_Lovins:
I just wanted to make sure that you all understood the pros and cons of both.
Austin:
aboleths lol
Kevdar:
OK, true enough
Calvin:
The land route will be way more awesome
Kevdar:
OK, so Jason, you’re saying that if we play smart
Calvin:
Take down a f’n vampire city
Kevdar:
and don’t get totally shit luck
Kevdar:
We can make it across by land?
Kevdar:
Without finding the big bad to be totally unstoppable by the end?
DM_Lovins:
However, I must say this about rail-roading. I am running the Coin Trilogy adventure right now, so you guys, as I always say, must be adventurous and willing to go on the adventure and “resolve” it. I don’t care if you decide to join Daresh and try to take over, but this is the adventure you guys are on, okay? That’s as much as I am giong to Rail-Road you all.
Austin:
well, building an evil empire takes a lot of time too
Austin:
are there flying mounts for rent, jason?
Kevdar:
OK, well if you really wanna go by land, calvin, that’s fine by me
DM_Lovins:
Well, that depends on a large mixture of things now doesn’t it? I’ll tell you that I have a calendar with events laid out by week. She has the power to kill by pointing, and the item slowly levels her. Her level is not static, but is based on how long she’s out and about.
Calvin:
by land we go
Calvin:
don’t worry, if something can kill us, they can take on our mission
DM_Lovins:
If you guys spend a year dicking around in the Jungle, then yeah, she’ll probably be way over for you.
Kevdar:
So, as long as we aren’t dicking around interminably
DM_Lovins:
However, you could, theoretically, be higher level than her if you level fast enough.
Kevdar:
and mostly trying to hustle through things
Kevdar:
and get to where we’re going
Austin:
well, where nothing is able to survive
Austin:
there is bound to be magical treasures!
Kevdar:
“Our town is beset by a vampire!”
Austin:
lol
Kevdar:
“Too bad, we’re saving the world. Later, yo.”
Kevdar:
vampire attacks in the night “Fine, guess we’ll kill it if it doesn’t run away”
Kevdar:
leave
Austin:
we have a cleric?
Kevdar:
Dugfinn is cleric?
Kevdar:
IIRC?
Austin:
Im sure we can make a good pace if Calvin stays alive and has a lot of light wound wands haha
DM_Lovins:
Of course, the boat is faster. By boat will take you a week and a half. By land will take you a month.
Calvin:
yep
Calvin:
hey
Calvin:
by land
Calvin:
we’ll be able to fly before a month is over
Calvin:
and then the rest of the adventure will be faster
Kevdar:
Doubtful >:|
DM_Lovins:
However you all still haven’t told Veoden about Arowain.
DM_Lovins:
Yes, Dugfinn is the Cleric.
DM_Lovins:
She can’t be here due to a death. However, she should be joining us next session.
Austin:
alright well then
DM_Lovins:
Her character will be botted. Kelsie’s ranger will also be botted at all times that she isn’t here.
DM_Lovins:
As will stephen or anyone else.
DM_Lovins:
Alright, now I was posting that long stream of text, let me go back up becuase I think I missed some of your responses.
DM_Lovins:
All previous adventures resulted in your current levels and items, yes.

Grog’Nob Punchyerface:
So, who wants to tell him the bad world-ending news?
Kevdar:
So, did Veoden know about Arowain?
Kevdar:
Or is this just us informing him of what we found out
Kevdar:
not like “Sorry, dude, your pal died”
Austin:
we talked about the fallen meteorite or whatever
Austin:
need to tell him all the rest, roleplay begin

Asehr:
There’s something else, though. We found the starmetal near a shack, which as a matter of course we investigated.

Asehr:
Inside, we discovered a wizard named Arowain. He told us of a powerful magical artifact he was keeping from those who would use its evil power
DM_Lovins:
Also Kevdar, nothing says you can’t seduce the Big Bad Boss Lady. Being a whore is always a legitimate strategy.
Kevdar:
I’m not nearly high enough on CHA to do that.
DM_Lovins:
Every intelligent creature gets a fame role in response to you Austin
Austin:
eh? What do you mean?

Asehr:
Alas, as he was detailing the powers of this object to us, it was stolen by an evil wizardress who announced herself as Daresh. She subsequently attacked me, meaning to slay me I believe, but Arowain interposed himself at the cost of his own life.
DM_Lovins:
You can only become a vampire if you’ve got blood. Also, decent roleplay about watching the other wizard die Kevin. Have 100 xp.
DM_Lovins:
The map, as I said, is in the Kalamar book, text page 127.

Asehr:
She escaped with the coin afterwards. This magical coin, we were told, has the power to slay at a whim and steal the life-force of its victims to empower the user.

Asehr:
This Daresh seems like the sort to make use of her newfound acquisition to the fullest, and we mean to go and stop her.

Asehr:
Any chance you could help?
DM_Lovins:
You could always try to signal a boat, yes, or you could arrange for others to meet with you along the way. I warn you though, the only caravans are in the far north, the far east, and around Zoa. So they’re all short.

Grog’Nob Punchyerface:
We were told, Asehr? The man burst into maggots and death at her whim! Looks like it works, to me.
DM_Lovins:
And yes, there are always many stupid ways to die in my games, aren’t there always?
DM_Lovins:
By the way, what does IIRC mean?
Calvin:
if i remember correc

Grog’Nob Punchyerface:
if i recall correctly grobnob yells at an unheard voice

Veoden:
My friend Arowain…

Asehr:
There are many magics that can cause such things. Your point, however, is sound. The remaining powers of the coin are still hearsay and speculation, but we should expect that they are true.
Austin:
ooC so wait, was she imprisoning him? Or was that actually his house?
Kevdar:
I wasn’t completely clear on that so I ran with what I had thought I’d understood

Veoden:
He… we were working on a project together… an important experiment on the star metal… My god… the Coin… she actually has the Coin of Power… the Medallion of Death.

Asehr:
What sort of experiments? Were they related to the Coin?

Veoden:
I know of what you speak, and yes, I must help you. We must get the message out quickly, time is of the utmost importance!

Jonathan Wiles:
Wait

Jonathan Wiles:
That doesn’t make any sense

Grog’Nob Punchyerface:
Usually when youre working on something called the Medallion of death, you hire some muscle to make sure things dont go bad…

Jonathan Wiles:
The witch has a strong artifact, but she’s hardly a threat herself.

Jonathan Wiles:
However if the coin’s as powerful as you say, once complete, then someone that could truly cause harm to the world could complete it.

Veoden:
No, no! Lord no! The experiments were not for the coin… but for something similar… we had hoped to use some of the magical theorems of the coin to make far more beneficial items… our research was being funded by the Royal College of Bet Rogala in Pekal. Arowain, and myself… I must admit, I do not know how to make the coin.

Veoden:
The coin… Arowain and Halaan had figured out how to make one for their Professor’s Thesis at the College… everyone has to do one to gain their professorship… but they only determined how to make a Medallion of Death from the old Fhokki legends, they would never actually DO such a thing his face is twisted in horror at the thought that you would think he and his old mentor were trying to make such a thing
DM_Lovins:
OOC: Daresh had imprisoned him, yes. She’s a much higher level than Veoden, and Arowain is also higher level than Veoden as he is his old instructor from the largest, greatest, and most powerful School of Magic in the Known World
DM_Lovins:
OOC: Also Austin, anything with the ability to understand a language, could of heard of a famous thing, so it gets a check to see if it recognizes anyone, including you.
Austin:
OOC: All those levels and he couldnt even figure out a way out of a house in the forest….

Veoden:
sits heavily and sighes putting his face in his hands If it is as you say…

Grog’Nob Punchyerface:
Who is halaan, Veoden?

Veoden:
then she and the coin are now one… The coin, is supposed to slowly drive the user mad with power. In all the Fhokki legends the possessors end up destroying themselves in their hubris only for another to inherit the coin.

Asehr:
Does the power drained by the Coin pass on to the next wielder?

Veoden:
turns to the orc, regarding him cooly He was another instructor at the Royal College of Magic… he and Arowain know the secret to make the coin, they are the only ones. The Royal College had their thesi sealed so that no one could try to use them for such nefarious purposes.
Kevdar:
Should probably answer grob’nob’s question first

Veoden:
turning to Asehr Yes, it does, but the coin and her are one, it has bounded to her body… they are no longer Daresh and the Coin, there is only Daresh / Coin. They are the same thing now… and so it will not destroy her. She is effectively immortal until the coin itself is destroyed… and the coin is… well… it is intelligent.

Grog’Nob Punchyerface:
He’s mighty then? He can make another coin to challenge Arowain’s?

Veoden:
You see… it… whispers to the user… in their mind… not vocally. At least this is what the legends say. I am not sure myself. Halaan would know more.

Asehr:
Where can we find him? We must know more if we are to stop her and the Coin.

Veoden:
is shocked at the astuteness of the orc and takes a step back Actually, I was going to say that the only thing that has been known to destroy one of these coins, is another coin. When they touch the reaction is… catastrophic for lack of a better term.

Veoden:
Of course… it would be very dangerous… someone would have to carry the coin to Daresh to destroy her…

Veoden:
I do not know where Halaan is, but I know someone whom might. I have an old friend in the great trade city of Zoa. His name is Geolain and he used to teach Divination at the Royal College of Magic. He knew Halaan, though briefly, so he should be able to find him… I… I must think of a way to tell Arowain’s daught of what happened to him… she will not take it well.
Austin:
Why didnt we bring his body back again?
Kevdar:
Just a guess
Kevdar:
It was maggots

Veoden:
The coin… would try to destroy whomever held it to take it to it’s destruction… It is a relic of a lost time, they say the great Demon King of the Ancient Dejy empire himself had them commissioned… whatever is used to make them will not be easy to acquire.

Asehr:
Well, fortunately we are in the presence of the masterful Jonathan Wiles. I’m sure that we’re up to the task. What should we do to get started?
DM_Lovins:
OOC: Do you want to retcon it so that you did bring back the body? You could, but someone would have to carry the maggoty, death touched, and maybe even undead corpse all the way back to town.
Kevdar:
No, I was saying
Kevdar:
It probably wasn’t a body for long.
Kevdar:
It was probably maggots.
Kevdar:
Just maggots full of dead Arowain.
Austin:
All you need is a finger to resurrect him
Austin:
just saying
Kevdar:
Yeah but most souls don’t like resurrections
Austin:
I doubt he was ready to die in such a way for such a powerful wizard
Austin:
i just meant maybe it was worth a try, but grob’nob would know next to nothing about resurrection
Kevdar:
^
Kevdar:
It’s also divine magic, which I have little knowledge of.
Kevdar:
Perhaps dugfinn’s character would know.

Veoden:
Yes, yes, a thousand times yes! Now is not the time to… sobs grieve… a single tear rolls down his check Now is the time for action. You must get to Geolain as soon as possible! I will write a letter for you to carry to him so that he will better understand the situation. The fastest way would be by boat… the way by land is far more dangerous… I have never heard of anyone crossing by land in less than two months and you’ld have to pass by… shivers the City of Gilia… the city of bats….
Kevdar:
looks at the botetd dugfinn
Austin:
ok, retcon. Dugfinn took locks of Arowains hair before we buried him in the hope that we could find a practitioner who could speak to the deceased or resurrect the same
DM_Lovins:
OOC: Strong enouch necromancy magic would not allow for resurrection. However, Dugfinn would know of it, and you could bring back a finger or something. However, in Kalamar you MUST have the head to resurrect. Period. Just like you get XP for achieving quest goals, not sheer body counts

Veoden:
Yet… you could go either way… If you go by land, there is a ranger brave and cunning that can guide you… I also know of a sea captain coming to port in the morning, he should be able to take you.
DM_Lovins:
OOC: PS the other characters will join you later, regardless of which way you choose.
DM_Lovins:
OOC: It will be a very odd, and highly unlikely coincedence.
Kevdar:
I thought we were with them already?
Austin:
OOC: well, even so Dugfinn thought there might be a chance to communicate with Arowain’s spirit for more information.

Veoden:
Do you have anything of Veodens? Anything I might study where you leave to try to determine what happened… anything that I might send to his daughter…
DM_Lovins:
OOC: Veoden will start looking for more adventurers because he figures you dicks are already good as dead, I’m not even going to require a sense motive check for that one. Now we have a reason for the other characters to join up.

Grog’Nob Punchyerface:
We have some small measure of notes. As far as personal items….the cleric cut a lock of his hair for some strange witchery

Veoden:
Did you… Did he… Was his head still intact?

Veoden:
carefully takes the notes and the hair carefully
Kevdar:
Jason: WAS his head still intact?
Kevdar:
Did we fail that one?

Grog’Nob Punchyerface:
Shrugs nonchalantly* The sorceress’s spell was eating at his body.
Kevdar:
Or was it already rotting?

Veoden:
I will also send a message to Geolain, to let him know you all are coming. Even with my magic, it will still take some time to reach him, a few days at the least.

Grog’Nob Punchyerface:
His skull likely remains. Maggots dont eat bone. I know. Well, normal maggots anyways.
DM_Lovins:
OOC: Yes, the head was intact. I’ll allow you to RetCon.
Kevdar:
Hrm.
Kevdar:
KNOWLEDGE CHECK TIME
Austin:
OOC: DOes it have to be like, fleshy intact?
Austin:
i would figure the skull would be enough
DM_Lovins:
OOC: Well roll it.
Kevdar:
Is that going to be arcana?

Jonathan Wiles:
« 1d20+9 = 5 + 9 = 14 »
Kevdar:
and are we doing pathfinder skills or 3.5 skills?
Austin:
pathfinder
DM_Lovins:
OOC: No, just an intact skull will work, but remember all the resurrection type spells have specific time limits. The longest is one year from death. Thus you can’t go around resurrecting people dead eons ago.

Veoden:
Your crudeness offends orc, but… your words give me a small measure of solace… I will gladly pay you all to go back and retrieve it intact. It MUST remain completely intact for my purposes…
DM_Lovins:
OOC: Actually religion because it is divine magic.

Jonathan Wiles:
Send someone else, we don’t have the time for errands
Austin:
OOC: please tell me im not the only one who has thought of this lol
DM_Lovins:
Pathfinder. What did you just roll Calvin? what kind of check?
Austin:
i mean, yea, usually npcs who die dramatically are meant to remain dead…but lol
Calvin:
kanowledge
DM_Lovins:
which knowledge Calvin?
Calvin:
they’re all the same
DM_Lovins:
There are several.
Calvin:
whichever’s relevant
Austin:
he means he has the same ranks in each that he knows
DM_Lovins:
Do you have equal ranks in all of them?
Austin:
bard

  • Kevdar rolls: d20 + 9 => 14 + 9 = 23
    Kevdar:
    I have a 23
    Kevdar:
    And that was for religion
    Calvin:
Only smart people are good at religion in dnd lol
    DM_Lovins:
Just making sure. Okay then, Master Wiles knows that the head is required, but not if the fleshiness or anything else.
    DM_Lovins:
Asehr knows everything I’ve just explained.
    Austin:
ok so we already brought the whole body with us?
    Austin:
    i assume wrapped up extensively
    DM_Lovins:
Knowing religion and doing religion are two different things. After all, all Cleric abilities are based off of Wisdom, not intelligence. Plus, there is a god of Science. Her name is Atheia.
    Kevdar:
Then I think I would have considered the possibility of resurrecting him… hrm. Seems like a little much to retconn though
    DM_Lovins:
OOC: Sure why not? I mean after all, the wizard got it so even if I was going to be a dick and say Dugfinn wasn’t there then you’ld still have it.
    DM_Lovins:
So yes, the body has been returned as well.
    Kevdar:
    OK, cool beans
    Austin:
OOC: The mighty barbarian is the one who though of it
    DM_Lovins:
Indeed! Interestingly, no one has tried it before.
    DM_Lovins:
Already, you guys are doing better than usual.
    DM_Lovins:
Then again, that is exactly why I asked you all here.
    DM_Lovins:
OOC: Okay then, you’ve talked with him, now do you want to try to wheddle some more supplies from him? I was planning on stopping soon, I’ll go to 9:30 because I said I would but I still have another online test to take. It’s not hard, but I still have to do it.
    DM_Lovins:
OOC: Has anyone bought maps? Those would be enormously useful.
    DM_Lovins:
OOC: Anything else to RetConn or discuss with Veoden?
    Austin:
    Bought map as in ingame?
    DM_Lovins:
    OOC: Of course, what else?
    Kevdar:
Definitely something we should purchase. Asehr’s going to press hard to get some cartographical knowledge of the region we’re travelling in, since he totally forgot to buy any the last time he took a big trip.
    Austin:
no, im glad it occurred to me though lol…something about ‘personal effects’ made me realize that if he made the damned ring hes probably useful
    Calvin:
you don’t have to type ooc
    Calvin:
we have impersonate for a reason
    DM_Lovins:
OOC: After all, if you didn’t buy a map in game then you don’t have one and you’ll have to rely SOLELY on your intuit sense of direction.
    Austin:
lol. So how much do they cost?
    Kevdar:
    Or that of the ranger.
    DM_Lovins:
    True that Calvin, true that.
    Kevdar:
I’m OK with stopping now, we can get everything together for the journey next time
    Austin:
    yea
    Kevdar:
or discuss some of it in e-mail or facebook
    Austin:
Ressurect Arowain gives something for Veoden to attend to while we make the journey
    DM_Lovins:
Depends on what quality and size you want. It’s basically this: bonus ^ 2 * 10 per 100 acres.
    Kevdar:
^ Makes much more sense than him sitting on his thumbs
    Austin:
well, i have no size ideas about the area on the way, but thanks
    Kevdar:
Just guesstimate based around winnie the pooh
    Kevdar:
it was a 100 acre wood you know
    Austin:
    lol
    DM_Lovins:
Indeed. Trust me, alot of stuff is going on behind the scenes no matter what you guys do. As you adventure you’ll hear about other places and people doing things. Of course it’s affected by your actions, but they still respond to them around the world and the ripples of actions thereof.
    DM_Lovins:
This isn’t like a computer game where nothing changes unless you directly do something about it. If you aren’t willing to help people, they’ll try to find someone else who is.
    Austin:
    im sure theyll look anyways
    Kevdar:
Sounds like fun. I’m gonna go shower, and I’ll be reading anything that comes up after right now, but I’ll be AFK.
    Austin:
i just meant this gives veoden a clear goal to achieve that is actually useful
    Kevdar:
    Fun times
    DM_Lovins:
Alright, if we want to end here, we can end here. I said I’ld be staying on until 9:30 pm in case anyone had questions or concerns, so that’s what I’ll do.
    Austin:
    yea, good for tonight

DM_Lovins:
Okay then. Thank you all for a good, fun, and productive (if terribly short) session.
DM_Lovins:
I figured you weren’t coming back, because no one could get ahold of you.
DM_Lovins:
Let me get that information for you.
Austin:
about starting gold and feats and special materials

DM_Lovins:
Page 399 of the core rule book, starting wealth by character level.
DM_Lovins:
Level 2 PC 1000 gold
DM_Lovins:
Level 3 PC 3000 gold
DM_Lovins:
Level 4 PC 6000 gold
DM_Lovins:
Level 5 PC: 10500 gold
